12 Tags of Tim Holtz - February

It's month #2 for the 12 Tags of Tim Holtz!  And it's February and nothing says February like Valentines & Hearts ( or ground hogs, ice, snow but I digress...)  so here's my version of Tim's tag!!
To see his fabulous tag, click HERE!!!

For my tag I started with my Milled Lavender, Pumice Stone and Spun Sugar Distress Stains.. I'm kinda in love with Pumice Stone and am very glad I've stocked up on it.  (Brushed Pewter is another FAVE!)   Now I didn't have the the heart stencils, and I'll be honest I don't see me getting them.  Not a huge hearts and kisses type of gal.  BUT I do own a tiny heart punch.  So I dug in my scrap bin and found a left over piece of TH Kraft Glassine paper.. punch punch punch.... Whalla, stencil!!
Grabbed my Spun Sugar, Crushed Velvet and Fired Brick Distress pads and blending tool... and followed Tim's lead.

Now I don't yet have the new fabby metal sticker embellishments Tim used on his tags... BUT I have a huge role of metal duct tape...and I used a border punch.  Distressed it with some black alcohol ink and some Black Soot Distress paint...

This next part was fun but required a few attempts!  Tim uses black card stock/paper to create this look.  I am currently hoarding my black card stock for another project.  I had some black gesso by Ranger Inc.. so I painted a swatch on some manilla.  It dried with just a little too much of a gloss finish for my taste.  I had a wee bit of chalkboard paint left and mixed it with the gesso, THAT worked wonderfully!

After that I followed Tim instructions on creating the chalkboard look.  The only chalk I had was side walk chalk from that famous crayon company, not sure if it's formulated like school room chalk because I wasn't getting the same look.  After playing around a bit, trying different stamps, this is my finished result.  I kept the heart "clean" and covered it with Christmas Red Stickles.  (Loose glitter and I don't get along)
Lastly, for the "grunge heart", I lost my grunge board heart somewhere on my desk. Being too lazy to cut another and too lazy to do a deep cleaning of my desk, instead I found some canvas "buttons".  I cut one into a heart shape, then colored it with Fired Brick & Picked Rasberry Distress Markers and a water pen to blend the colors. Then I took a wishbone and tied it to the heart using some fabulous paper thread by Tim Holtz.

Thanks for stopping by.  Thank you also for taking the time to comment.  I enjoy reading each and every comment and compliment.  You all are so nice!!  :D

Card Making Time

Winter is attempting to visit Texas.  Only on Wednesday, it was 78 degrees and now 28 degrees and three inches of sleet cover our roads and yards.  School is out, work postponed and we're all home together.  So with David running interference with the kids for me... I'm here in the studio working on our cards.  I started last week out at Cat's, yet there's still much more to do and get done.

If you've been scrapping and card making for as long as I, you're bound to have a stash of scraps.  Every year I plan and purchase all my supplies, but this year I attempted to pull from my stash.  So, anything that fell into my "color plan" was pulled out and cut down for my card fronts.  There's G45, MME, Authentic, Daisy D, Aspargus...(yes, I hoard my paper and some is "vintage"!!)  Card fronts are cut and inked... next!
Being inspired by Tim Holtz's 12 Tags of 2013 and Pinterest... AND taking techniques taught via Nanci Holtsford at Cat's Creations, I cut a stack of Kraft paper dies, embossed and inked.  Love my Tim Holtz/Sizzix embossing folders!
I've reached the embellishment stage now...mass production of poinsettias, snowflakes and what ever mini Christmas inspired goodies I have the means of making!  This is where the fun kicks in..however I best hurry.  As usual, I'm running behind with my cards.  The mailbox has already received a few Christmas cards and the pressure is on!

You Make Me....

It's reveal time over at CSI this week.  Debbi has come up with a beautiful fresh case file for us!! Are you ready for some fabulousness?  Here we go then!

I used the following evidence:
Bicycle - A wonderful metal bicycle element I found in clearance at Michaels
Circles - my photos are cut into circles
Birds:  I used a Hero Art stamp and stamped my bird in Scarlet onto vellum.  I also used some bird washi tape
Music Notes:  I used papers by Teresa Collins "Vintage Finds"
Twine:  I wrapped my journal tags with twine
Vellum:  I stamped "Happy" onto vellum for my title

My testimony, I took the ques for "Song Title/Lyrics" for inspiration.   "You've Made Me So Very Happy" by Blood, Sweat & Tears.. and tweek it a bit "You Make me.."   And from there built my journaling around it and these photo's of my youngest daughter.

Sarah is just so content to pick dandelions and blow, completely unaware I was there taking pictures.
My papers include Authentique, Teresa Collins, MME.  Stamps are by Hero Arts and Stampabilities.

CREATE

My creativity is slowing coming back, the "issue" of late seems to be TIME.  It's been busy in our household these days.  We've had Spring Break, Choir Competition, UIL, Navy Retirements and the calendar continues to fill up with obligations and commitments.  Throw in home improvements on top of all of this and it's a whirlwind.

March 15th Case File over at CSI was absolutely to die for.  I loved this file.  The colors are outstanding and the evidence list just made me happy.  To be honest, I really want to continue building and adding to this layout.

Since time has been fragmented and limited, this layout has come together slowly.  But the process has been comforting, relaxing and evolving at it's own pace.  The testimony prompts suggests Documenting a Hobby.   I haven't journaled it yet, but I LOVE my hobby.  It's brought me so many things.  Friendships is #1 on the list.  Thru scrapbooking, I've met people on a local level as well as a national and international level.  We are a community of men and women (YES, there are men out there who scrap and they're friggin' awesome) bonded together by the joy and passion of our craft.
We love seeing our families browse thru our scrapbooks and it's not for personal gratification or attention.  Our children light up when they view their scrapbooks, re-living their achievements, seeing how everyday moments are important and valued, their scrapbooks make them feel important and raise their self esteem.  It's just another facet of love that shines on them.
Family members viewing the albums get an opportunity to "live" with us and share these milestones, especially if they're far away.  They relive memories of the past and see history frozen in time for future generations to share and learn.
And who needs a shrink, when you create?  You're able to release your energy into your pages.  You can tuck sorrow into paper and glue, allow joy to sparkle in glitter and ribbon, stamp emotion into the pages.  Journaling opens a page into your life or into others...it beckons you.  Come join us on our journey, let us share.

This case file and layout allows me to combine two of my hobbies together.  I love my camera and photography.  It's nothing special, I photograph what I love.  I enjoy playing with editing and effects.  Instagram is a favorite app on my phone and I love using those pics in layouts.

The evidence used for this layout include:
Flowers:  Tim Holtz was having a challenge on his blog, encouraging us to use his Tattered Floral Die.  How easy was that???  I made three flower embellies.  The flowers are cut from scraps of Heidi Swapp's  Textbook paper and Prima Ledger Pad collection.  I used my Distress Ink Pads, Spun Sugar, Victorian Velvet, Frayed Burlap and Bundled sage to ink and distress the edges.  The largest was dipped into clear embossing powder while the inks where still wet and set with my embossing gun.  They where also crumbled up and misted with my Perfect Pearls Mists.  LOVE
Tape Measure:  I had some 7 Gypsies tapes from ages ago.  I inked the edges and just stuck it down.
Stripes:  Again I used Heidi Swapp from her "Vintage Chic" collection, the colors were perfect.  Also I used a MME brad in the center of one of the flowers.
Vintage Elements:  The whole LAYOUT has a vintage feel, if it didn't start out vintage I made it look vintage.  I did take a piece of old copper my gf dug out of family storage unit, she thought  I could do something creative with it.  Challenge ACCEPTED.
Metal:  A piece of copper sheeting that I ran thru my Big Shot with my TH die.  Loved the patina of the metal so much, I didn't really mess with it.  I did add a rub-on and pearls to it.  There are also some TH Idea-logy metal tags.
Numbers: I used a number mask and applied texture paste in the upper right hand corner of the layout.  The effect was subtle and allowed the stripes to shine thru.  On the manilla tag, I used my TH Bingo Texture Fade folder and went to town with my paints and inks.  There are numbers on the metal tags, the measure tape and I included a stray metal number tag from my TH stash.
Lace:  There's a bucket of ribbon scraps on my desk, I pulled out all fragments and scraps of lace and used them up on this layout.  .
Tag:  Yes, another TIM HOLTZ tag.  If you've been stalking me, you'll know I find joy in creating tags and love finding a place for them on my layouts.
Dressform:  I love my Tim Holtz dressform die.  I have certainly got my moneys worth on this particular product and enjoy using it whenever possible.

Lastly I must give credit to Page Drafts for my sketch/layout design.  Emma Stafrace is our official sketch artist over at CSI and provides us with an awesome sketch once a month.  But if you crave more sketches, visit her blog and enjoy more of her fabulous creativity.  I used a sketch from her #19 Release.  Thank you for the inspiration!!

Looking for some inspiration?  Feel like CREATING?  Come join us over at CSI and play along with our current Casefile #64 .   Need some sketchy inspiration, go check out Page Drafts!
It's time I close for now, thank you for stopping by!  :D

Wow Wednesday

It's Wow Wednesday over at Cat's and if you're not familiar with the concept, hop on over HERE to learn more.  Each week we share our creations, crafts and paper project over at Cat's Blog.  Then we take time to hop to each participants, view their fabulousness and leave love on their blog or gallery.

This tag has been in the works for a wee bit.  I started it and then I set it down and let it "percolate".  The desire to create something that recognized the courage my SIL has for fighting breast cancer was strong.  Marcy sent a picture on her first day of chemo, it was a MASSIVE syringe filled with her chemo meds.  I kept thinking, if the syringe is THAT big.. HOW big is the needle...  OH MY OH MY, this can' be happening.  There's no way I could muster her courage.  And yet SHE did.  She has.  She continues to do so.

The chemo is doing what it's suppose to.  It's killing that cancer.  It's also taking a toll on her body.  The hair is gone (but her wig is freakin' awesome and she looks GOOD in it), her taste buds, shot for the moment.  BUT, family are stepping in, friends are opening doors, the care and child swapping has begun.  It takes a village, they say... but it's not JUST for the children.  They are brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, aunts & uncles.. people we have zero blood relationship to.  But they are family.  And the bonds are strong and tight.  Amazingly enough, FAITH is strong too.  We each share our own thoughts and beliefs, but regardless of the differences.. our individual faiths are strengthened and grow deeper.

My tag is built from a Ranger #8 Manilla tag, I used Tim Holtz honeycomb texture fades, along with inking techniques I learned from Miss Nanci over at Cat's.  The entire tag was coated with some crackle accents, just to see what it would do.. and then I rubbed some vintage photo ink along with some ColorBox Chalk ink (rouge).  The seam binding was rolled, dipped, spritzed and smeared with spun sugar, tattered rose, and vintage inks.  The TH frame was dipped in versa mark ink and then coated HEAVILY with Stampendous Shabby Pink embossing enamel.  The word HOPE is stamped with vintage photo ink onto heavy cardstock, then adhered to the frame.  I filled with void with Glossy Accents.  The courage sentiment is stamped on a manilla envelope using Archival ink.  Then stamped over with a french script stamp and white acrylic paint.  It's an awesome technique Nanci taught us.. I fussy cut a butterfly from TH Kraft Resist paper pad and colored with the inks.  I started pulling little bits and pieces from the odds & ends bucket I keep close at hand.  And there you have it..my Breast Cancer tag.

We are rounding out CSI's birthday celebration with a huge pile of presents! The talented and very generous CSI design team, aka the CSI Detectives, have prepared special blog posts for you this week, and all you have to do is leave a comment on participating design team members' blogs for a chance to receive a present from them! The more blogs you comment on, the more chances you'll have to receive a gift!
We also have the brand-new company Blue Fern Studios joining our blog hop! Our very own Detective Michele Singh is the designer of this company's beautiful chipboard, and we are delighted to have Blue Fern Studios join us to celebrate our birthday on the month they were introduced to the world!
The CSI Birthday Presents Blog Hop will run from January 25 - 29. Winners will be announced in our Full Disclosure (Announcements) Forum the following week. A newsletter will go out to members once this announcement is posted.
Here is a list of the blogs you will want to visit:
Shaunery Wharton  (you are here!)

Whew what a MONTH!!   I'm just gonna get to it, since this is a long post.

My evidence includes:
CLOUDS:  I used fabulous chippie clouds that I covered with G45 papers and distressed and the other I inked with ColorBox White pigment ink, Picket Fence Distress stain, Iced Spruce Distress Ink and some Memento London Fog
Strings:  I just left the strings from my manilla tags on...
Something that dangles or hangs: I stamped some fabby skulls Ketto" by Stamping Bella (LOVE HIM!) onto some vellum.  I then applied clear embossing powder and set.  I also used a spider stamp from an old MYB acrylic stamp set. (Spiders do dangle!) He's been set with black embossing powders.
Wet Medium: I used embossing powders to create a "wet look", I also used Perfect Pearls Mists "Perfect Pearl",
Something translucent: Again, vellum and embossing come into play here.  I printed my photo directly onto vellum.  While the ink was still wet, I applied clear embossing powders and set it.  I loved the result!
Plain Cardstock Background:  Black Bazzil

My testimony is very simple and was inspired (but doesn't follow) the 13 Hints for a Happy Life  prompt.  I liked the #13 so I used the imagery.  I also made a vellum envelope for my tag that holds my journaling:

Also, I'll be drawing one lucky random commenter to win a RAK from ME!  Another
great chance to win some Blog Candy!!  Hope you enjoy and love hearing from you!
