The Big Day

Well, today is Taylor's big day. Solo competition in Gainesville, TX. So far the day was not starting well. Everyone woke up with draining sinus, coughs and sore throats. Taylor ate breakfast, took meds, showered and is was back in bed until it was time to leave. I'm hoping the benedryl will kick in and help with the drainage... poor kid.
The kids loaded into two buses. Taylor was one of two boys out of the entire group. The rest ALL girls! Geesh. I didn't expect to hear from him, until I picked him up, but then the phone rang. It was Taylor calling from a classmates phone, he finished singing and was waiting for scoring. His voice was all raspy, cracking and hoarse sounding, I thought to myself, Oh crap. He felt he did well, but did admit to bobbling the words a bit. But he said he had a quick recovery and moved on.
Then at 5:30ish, Taylor calls again. They just received their scores. Taylor received a 2!! They're scored on scales of 1 - 4, 1 being the highest. Considering this was Taylor's first competition, first year of singing, first solo, this is a GREAT score! Out of all the kids, all but three scored 1's. The other three were 2's, Taylor being one of them. Again, AWESOME.
To celebrate they all had dinner at Chili's. I'm so glad I didn't work there! Two bus loads of kids during the dinner rush. By the time the buses rolled back into Springtown it was 9:30 pm. Taylor got off the bus, exhausted and his voice completely trashed. Mr. Duke commented not only did his cold/allergies effected his voice, but he's been noticing changes during choir practice. Before we know it, Taylor will be talking in a deep voice! :)
Next week is Saginaw choir/ site reading competition. One week to recover, one week for the boys choir to get their crap together (they might not due to behavior issues) and one week for me to decide to chaperone. We'll see.

Congrats, Taylor! I'm proud of you. It takes some guts to get up and sing a solo for competition! Good luck next weekend too.

Taylor,

Mom told me what you did and I couldn't have been more proud of you. Thanks for just being you.

Dad.
