Head Games

Today was Sarah's Dr. appointment with her neurologist. Dr. "Mac" explained in detail the results from her EEG. I think I already mentioned the findings were consistant with that of a patient who suffers from siezures, even though Sarah had only the one. Dr. "Mac" then used a real big medical term for the condition, I had him say it four times and for the life of me, I can't repeat it! Static sljdskjfaljdf;lasjf... Basically that part of her brain is VERY active, ie the reference to static. But it doesn't affect her development or behavior. So, what do we do about this? Monitor and watch.

Next was the MRI findings. What they expected to find was more to "match" or back the eeg testing. Instead they found something completely different in a completely non-related part of the brain. *deep breath* Deep, in the core in the center of her brain, they found a cyst. It's about the size of a nickel and it's not affecting her in any way shape or form. He explained that 1 out of 5 people have some sort of "defect", anomoly or even a cyst of one size or another and it affects them in no way. Due to Sarah's age, the one seizure, the EEG results and her more apparent behavoir problems, we will monitor this. If the cyst should grow, we will have to address the problem.

During our talk, Sarah then gave Dr. "Mac" an example of her melt downs. It was a mini-melt down but it was enough. Dr. "Mac" is very concerned that Sarah's not in speach therapy and will be assisting me in getting her into speach therapy. We talked of Sarah's sleep "disorders" and he reinforced that I was taking the right steps, keeping the routine and such. He even prescribed a sleep aid for Sarah, just to help her through her Night Frights and to help wind her down quicker.

And that was our morning....

One step closer, right?

Speech therapy may open the doors to other help you are looking for but can't get access to. Evan has "happy sleep" drugs now, too. Is this finally a step forward without a step back to go with it? Hang in there.
