9/11

It's Tuesday, September 11th...many thoughts are in my head. Today Aaron would be 35 years old. Many of his classmates are married and have children now...interesting. Seventeen years has passed since he left our lives, but I feel his "presence" even more now. Is because I have all my children under one roof? Because David is in D.C.? Dunno, but I'm grateful for his watchful eye and energy that surrounds us. And it's occured to me that I may have forgotten to acknowledge the friends and family that helped ME cope and get thru this, from that day 17 years ago to the current times. THANK YOU, your love, prayers, actions, duly noted....
Today, five years ago, America's world came crashing down. Many of us witnessed the towers tumbling , the horror of knowing innocent lives were trapped within those walls of glass and steel. When I listened to "adults" talking of where they were when President Kennedy was shot, I never "got" it. Until....first high school, watching live as the Space Shuttle Challenger exploded in that clear blue sky. It's that sick tightening in your stomach, like you'll be sick. Then it's the realization that it's happening, it's REAL and nothing you can do or think can make it stop or undo. Watching the second plane smash into the WTC's.....stomach tightening, disbelief, horror of the helplessness...was prayer enough?
Now for four and half years our service men and women are overseas, fighting and defending an idea, belief, some even say a dream. Many are dissatisfied with our president, disagreeing with his politics. But our nation voted him into his office, and isn't this what our president is suppose to do? All I do know, is I support our men and women who volunteer their lives to do a job for our nation. They're trying to fight in a war that has rules only we seem to follow. And when we break the rules, act "dishonorabley" or "cheat" the opponent and our own citizens scream foul and we're to punish our players. I don't recall war ever being "fair", there is no honor in the way the opponents fight. When our forefathers fought for our future freedom so long ago, the heavy hand of England pressed down upon America. We had a clear "mission", to shake off that hand, to rule our own country, to live life freely. These days, the objective is muddy and unclear, we fight in countries that aren't our own, we fight for others rights and those aren't even sure of what rights they want. We fight for the rights we beleive they should be excited to have, but we failed to ask along the way....
I'd make a terrible politician or leader. I see black and white, right and wrong, I probably miss many little details...I'd just like to see our country, our world united in peace, love and harmony. I'd like to see our troops come home to their families, I'd like to honor our fallen in our hearts, in our actions and in our thoughts; not a piece of stone or bronze propped up. Our world is full of so many memorials to our loved ones. Soon, there will be nothing but marble, granite, bronze and metal filling every blank spot in our cities, parks and highways. Let us celebrate their lives, accomplishments, love with our daily lives.
