Childhood Joys

There is nothing like the exhileration of the swing. Especially when you can get your daddy to push you waaaaay up high. Last year David hung these rope swings from our backyard elm tree..one the best things he did! Our girls took a bit to figure out how to hop on, then a little more to get themselves moving. Sarah is our little monkey, pulling herself right up! But then she knows no fear.
I remember as a child swinging on the swing. It was early spring and my brother and I were just so happy to finally get out of the house after the winter, and just as happy to be done with homework for the afternoon. We'd swing until dusk, watching the sky turn from blue to fushia to deep purple. The warm day cooled, and you can smell the dew on the grass and the earthiness of the dirt. Bob Whites were already calling, but now the whipperwhills were starting their calls. One by one stars came out and we'd wish on the first one. Maybe that's why I like sparkley things so much...
