Yesterday was a full day. Met my peeps for lunch at Rosa's, (Taco Tuesdays, hello!) and to calm my nerves before Sarah's first appointment with the shrink. I've been a little apprehensive, one I can't pronounce the Dr.'s name, it's in east Ft. Worth and what is he going to say??? Sarah and I arrive early, good thing too, parking in non-existant and what little there was, scarey. After circling a few times, finally found a spot in the actual parking lot near the front door. Get to the reception/waiting area...eeehhh it's a throw back to the 70's. Old chairs, the cushions are stained and nappy, the "toys" for the children cheap stuffed animals from carnival/fair stuff. The receptionist, OMG this scarey old thing from the 1800's, big hair dark lipstick and talks with a smokers rasp. Sarah immediately states, "I go home." I think to myself, "I hear ya sister!" So, we sit and wait. Two more patients enter and check in and I over hear that they have 2:30 appointments........WE have a 2:30 appointment. How does a shrink see THREE patients at the same time? After waiting our turn (we're last) we are shown to Mr. Sunkar's office. It's HUGE with an enormous aquarium in it. His first statement out of his mouth... "So, she's very hyper." Noooo...his questioning line leads down the path of ADD. I keep stating I don't believe she's ADD but she does have issues! Hmmm, well, here are two prescriptions and you should so a 50% improvement in a week or two.
??????? WTF?????? It was like everything out of my mouth was completely dismissed. The GOOD news is I get to make an appointment with an actually diagnostition to rule out ADD, ADHD, PCD and to evaluate her IQ. We were out of there by 3:20....needless to say I'm not impressed, and am compelled to search out my own quack. So having said that...I'm off to the phone to start making some calls.
I'll be back later to share some positive news for Erin, Taylor and Sarah...

FRUSTRATING! I hate it when Dr's make assumptions and come in with preconceived notions about what's wrong and what the parents want. And it's especially frustrating that ADD/ADHD seems to be the default diagnosis for all behavioral problems. Grrrrr!
You nailed it Staci..... Most Doc's are QUACKS anyway.....
Give me his address, I will go kick his a.. You are such a strong person Shaunery. I would be a puddle of self misery. You are my girly-hero.
Sorry. Keep plugging. Something will come about and help you find answers. As for the you description of the receptionist, I am picturing Rozz from Monsters, Inc.
Exactly, she was Rozz from Monsters....scarey huh? Can you imagine being a child coming into that office? Then greeted by THAT???
